Landscaping in Piedmont, AL
Terminus Point country, and the steepest ground in the Alabama end of the area.
The ground in Piedmont
Piedmont sits under the northern end of the Choccolocco Mountains, where the Chief Ladiga trail runs out toward the Georgia line. Steep, rocky ground with shallow soil on the slopes and a narrow strip of valley floor between them. There is not much level ground here that was not made.
What that means for the build
Steep and rocky means terracing rather than a single graded yard, and it means the excavation estimate has to allow for rock honestly. Ground like this makes beautiful stepped terraces and punishes anyone who prices it as a flat lot.
The properties
Mountain-side and valley homes, plus acreage up on the ridges where the view is the reason the house is there at all.
What usually leads in Piedmont
Every trade is available across the whole service area. These are the ones that tend to carry a Piedmont project:
- Retaining Walls & GradingSegmental block walls, cut-and-fill grading and the drainage behind both. Georgia clay holds water and moves; a wall that was not drained is a wall that leans.
- Masonry & ConcreteAll applications of brick, block and stone, plus concrete work, laid by the same crew that runs the hardscape. Steps, veneer, columns, walls and the flatwork between them, built to match the house instead of fighting it.
- Hardscape & Paver TerracesPool decks, terraces, walkways and stepping-stone paths. Compacted base, screeded bedding, cut edges and a locked perimeter. The part nobody sees is the part that decides whether it is still flat in ten years.
All ten trades run in-house, so one crew and one schedule covers the whole job.
